  • Cardiocondyla batesii is a species characterized by its nesting preferences and distinct behaviors. They are often found nesting in cavities of bushes and trees, typically situated 2 to 5 meters above ground level. These nests have been observed in various locations such as dead twigs of trees, galls of Acacia trees, and even in coconut cavities high in the trees. The species displays unique reproductive behaviors, producing two forms of males: wingless ergatoid males and males with wings. Interestingly, continuous fighting occurs within the nest between these two male forms. Colonies of Cardiocondyla batesii generally do not exceed 500 workers and display a wide range of colony structures and reproductive behaviors.
